Moderator: Jason Hallstrom

Dr. Jason O. Hallstrom is the Founding Executive Director of Florida Atlantic University’s Institute for Sensing and Embedded Network Systems Engineering (I-SENSE) and is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He holds a B.S. in Systems Analysis, an M.A in Economics, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer and Information Science. His work involves the design, deployment, and management of large-scale sensing and analytics infrastructure, with an emphasis on hardware/software co-design issues. His work has been supported through NSF, DOE, EPA, USDA, USACE, NASA, NOAA, the Knight Foundation, the City of West Palm Beach, and other foundations and partners. He serves as Deputy Director and Chief Research Officer for the NSF ERC for Smart Streetscapes (CS3).
 

Nikolaos Papanikolopoulos

Since 1992, Dr. Nikolaos Papanikolopoulos has resided in the University of Minnesota. Now, the McKnight Presidential Endowed Professor, Distinguished McKnight University Professor and IEEE Fellow will be directing the brand new Minnesota Robotics Institute. Amassing over 80 journal and 300 conference publications, Papanikolopoulos specializes in robotics, computer vision, intelligent transportation systems, sensor networks, sensor-based control in transportation applications, inspection, computer engineering, and computer integrated manufacturing.

Monisha Ghosh

Dr. Monisha Ghosh is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. She is also the Policy Outreach Director for SpectrumX, the first NSF Center for Spectrum Innovation and the co-chair of the FCC’s Technological Advisory Council (TAC) Working Group on Advanced Spectrum Sharing. Her research interests are in the development of next generation wireless systems: cellular, Wi-Fi and IoT, with an emphasis on spectrum sharing and coexistence. Prior to joining the University of Notre Dame in 2022, she was the Chief Technology Officer at the Federal Communications Commission, a Program Director at the National Science Foundation, Research Professor at the University of Chicago and spent 24 years in industry research at Bell Labs, Philips Research and Interdigital working on a wide variety of wireless systems: HDTV, Wi-Fi, TV White Spaces and cellular. She obtained her BTech from IIT Kharagpur in 1986 and PhD from USC in 1991. She is a Fellow of the IEEE.

Kate Keahey

Dr Kate Keahey is one of the pioneers of infrastructure cloud computing. She created the Nimbus project, recognized as the first open source Infrastructure-as-a-Service implementation, and continues to work on research aligning cloud computing concepts with the needs of scientific datacenters and applications. To facilitate such research for the community at large, Kate leads the Chameleon project, providing a deeply reconfigurable, large-scale, and open experimental platform for Computer Science research. To foster the recognition of contributions to science made by software projects, Kate co-founded and serves as co-Editor-in-Chief of the SoftwareX journal, a new format designed to publish software contributions. Kate is a Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory and a Senior Fellow at the Computation Institute at the University of Chicago.
